Department of Geography

About the Department

Geography encompasses a wide area of study. Geography is one of the oldest subjects in the realm of social sciences. This notable subject was introduced in UG level as B.A. in the academic year 1972 in this college and was functioning successfully.

The B.A. Degree was transformed to B.Sc. from 1985 onwards. In 2004-05 PG course was added to the department.At present 180 students are studying in the Department. In the year 2011-12 the percentage of result produced in UG was 100% and PG was 95%.

The Department has 6 permanent faculty members and 4 Guest Lecturers. 4 of the regular faculty are Ph.D. holders and 2 are M.Phil. degree holders. 1 of the staff member has cleared National Eligibility Test and 2 have passed State Level Eligibility Test.

Books & Journals are indispensable companions for Geography Teaching. The Department Library possesses a collection of books covering various branches of Geography. To suit the specific needs of aspirants who are appearing for Competitive Examinations like NET, SLET we have a treasure of Geography oriented reference books.

The Department has realized the potential of the newly developing Remote Sensing Technology in recent years and has procured suitable software-Map Info, Q-GIS for the PG practical classes. The Department is equipped with 2 Laboratory facilities each separately for the UG and PG students.
